Simple 6-Step Installation
Clean the Area
Begin by preparing the pothole for repair. It is crucial to remove all loose debris, dirt, rocks, and any standing water from inside the hole. Ensuring the area is clean and dry helps the new material bond properly with the existing pavement.
Prepare the Edges
Square off the edges of the pothole using appropriate tools. Creating clean, vertical edges ensures better adhesion and a more professional finish. This step prevents future cracking around the repair area.
Apply Primer
Apply a tack coat or primer to the bottom and sides of the pothole. This adhesive layer creates a strong bond between the existing pavement and the new repair material, ensuring longevity.
Fill with Material
Pour the cold patch asphalt material into the prepared hole. Fill slightly above the surface level to account for compaction. Spread the material evenly across the entire repair area.
Compact Thoroughly
Use a hand tamper or plate compactor to firmly compress the material. Work from the edges toward the center, ensuring the patch is level with the surrounding pavement. Multiple passes may be necessary.
Finished Result
Your repair is now complete and ready for traffic. The patched area will continue to harden over time as vehicles drive over it. Regular maintenance inspections will help identify any future issues early.
